Vigil Held for NYPD Officers Fatally Shot in Harlem

A vigil was held outside a police station in Harlem on the evening of January 25 to honor two NYPD officers who died after being shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call. New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora were trying to provide aid to a man, who then opened fire on them “suddenly and without warning.” In a media address, Sewell said: “I am struggling to find the words to express the tragedy that we are enduring. We are mourning and we are angry.” Jason Rivera, who was 22 years old, died on the night of the incident, January 21; 27-year-old Wilbert Mora died of his injuries in hospital on Tuesday.
