Melbourne man seriously injured after saving his father from burning caravan

A young Melbourne man has been dubbed a hero after he ran into a burning caravan to save his cancer-stricken father, who is unable to walk.

Zac, 21, who did not want his surname used, rushed into a burning caravan at his Melton South home on Kurrajong Crescent just before 3pm to save his father, Travis, 41.

Both men suffered serious burns, but Travis’ mum, Marlene, says Travis would not be alive at all without Zac’s courageous act.

“If it wasn’t for Zac he wouldn’t be here today,” Marlene told 9News.

“(Zac) is a hero, he saved my son”.

Travis was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital by ambulance with burns to much of his body, while Zac was rushed to the Alfred Hospital by ambulance with lower body injuries.

It is believed the fire started when the massage chair Trav was using exploded.

Firefighters have said they arrived to find the “house and caravan engulfed in flames”.

The fire was brought under control within 13 minutes.
