On birthday, 14-year-old aspiring cricketer from Dombivali dies after being hit by car

Thane: A 14-year-old aspiring cricketer was hit by a car and died on the spot at Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex of Kalyan Dombivali Municipality near Gharda Circle in Dombivali East on Friday, May 20 in the evening. The incident was shocking for the 14-year-old boy’s family and friends because he died on the day when it was his birthday. Manpada police station has registered a case under IPC section 304 against the driver and has arrested him.

The name of the deceased young cricketer is Prashant Dilip Mishra (14) and the driver’s name is Jayesh Ravindra Nerlekar (25) who is a resident of Sadguru Kripa Society, Ajadegaon, Dombivali East.

Manpada police station senior police inspector Shekhar Bagde said, “Dilip Mishra, 39, is a businessman. He lives in Saimauli Society in Ajadegaon. Dilip’s son Prashant had gone to the Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex to play cricket as usual. Accused Jayesh Nerlekar was speeding his car while Prashant was playing cricket at the ground between 5 to 5:30 pm. Jayesh while driving the car speedingly indiscriminately hit Prashant Mishra, who was playing cricket on the field. Prashant fell to the ground in a car crash and was in a pool of blood. The friends of Prashant who were playing with him rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors due to severe head injury and fractured bones.”

Prashant’s father Dilip Mishra lodged a complaint at Manpada police station. The police have registered a case under the Motor Vehicle Act and launched an investigation into the complaint. Sub-Inspector of Police K. K. Gangurde is investigating the case.

Speaking with FPJ correspondent, Manpada police station assistant commissioner of police J. D.More said, “We will be initiating strict action against the driver for rash driving. We have also registered a case under IPC section 304 (A) against him. The 25-year-old driver named Jayesh Nerlekar was also drunk and that is the reason he rammed into the boy. The boy belongs to a very well to do family and his family is shocked after his death.”

Prashant Mishra’s father Dilip Mishra was unavailable for the comments even after several attempts.

The sportsmen who always play at Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex are now questioning why the security guards of the sports complex did not stop the car drivers when they were not allowed to drive in the stadium. It is learned that during the day, many novice motorcar drivers come to Savlaram Maharaj Sports Complex to learn car driving.

The sportspersons from the Dombivali and surrounding areas say that for many years we are demanding that the drivers should not be allowed to enter the Savlaram Stadium but it is being ignored by the KDMC authorities.
