HDFC Bank app down again; lender says ‘looking into issue on priority’

NEW DELHI: HDFC Bank on Tuesday said that it is again facing some issues on its mobile banking application. The private lender suggested its customers to use internet banking till the glitch is fixed.
“We are experiencing some issues on the MobileBanking App. We are looking into this on priority and will update shortly. Customers are requested to please use NetBanking to complete their transaction. Regret the inconvenience caused,” HDFC Bank tweeted.

The latest glitch comes at a time when the lender’s IT infrastructure is already under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) audit after a series of technical problems reported.
HDFC Bank is expected to get back to the banking regulator on how it has addressed recurrent issues on its digital banking platform.

In February, RBI appointed an external firm to conduct a special audit of its entire information technology (IT) infrastructure.
In December 2020, the RBI had barred HDFC Bank from new digital launches and issuance of fresh credit cards until it addressed its digital issues.
The RBI had also asked the bank’s board to identify lapses and fix accountability. The RBI’s directive came after a prolonged outage of digital services following a power outage at the bank’s primary data centre.
